The Biedano River Gorge

An interesting and pleasant excursion of historical and natural interest, in the Marturanum Natural Park, starting from the village of Barbarano Romano. The route proceeds in a loop and reaches the Necropolis of San Giuliano passing by Tumulo Cima and the Tombs. From here the itinerary returns towards the Torrente Biedano to follow the Sentiero dei Valloni which returns towards Barbano Romano.

In the heart of Tuscia, the Biedano flows between Barbarano and Blera which is one of the most beautiful tufaceous canyons in all Lazio!
We will go into the canyon, where nature lives in its lush forest of big trees with gnarled roots that reach into the fresh water.
Afterward, we will explore Marturanum’s ruins, with masterworks Etruscan tombs of 7th BC, a suggestive medieval abandoned church and an ancient Roman swimming pool with an inspiring view.
